Yesterday was a sad day. I attended the funeral of my “sista-cuz’s” stepson. Russ Hernandez, a member of the Baton Rouge Police Department, died suddenly and unexpectedly last week. He was taken at 30 years of age by a congenital heart problem. Although I did not have the pleasure of meeting Russ, it was clear that he was an outstanding young man taken way too early. He had been in the U.S. Army and also worked as an EMS. He leaves behind a fiance’ and four young children. The outpouring of support shown by the BRPD and many others was unbelievable. It was clearer that ever before that the “brotherhood” of the police department is not just a word. The procession to the gravesite was amazing. Every artery was stopped. Some people stood outside their cars with their hands over their hearts. At the entrance to Green Oaks Cemetary, the BR Fire Department had displayed a huge American flag. Bagpipes played, the flag was folded and presented, and the tears continued to flow. Goodbye Russ. Rest in peace knowing your family will continue to be supported and loved by many.
Here are the weeks deals!
